As entrepreneurs, we find it as hard as others to get a life-work balance during the holidays.
We want to spend as much time as possible with family and friends but also feel guilty about taking the time off.
Why do we do this to ourselves? In fact there are ways to avoid this guilt trip and make work fit seamlessly into your holiday plans.
Try these approaches.
Be organized.
Start planning at least the month before. Make a list of everything you see impacting your time.
Realize you cannot do it all.
Accept this fact and list the things that can wait until after the holidays. There will be more than you thought.
Prioritize.
Do a weekly list of the projects that absolutely have to be done and schedule them for a specific time. Ticking them off the list as they get done makes you feel less stressed immediately.
You work to live, not live to work.
Remember that – put your personal life first at this time of the year. It will make you twice as productive after the festivities are over and you are ready to dive back into work.
Be realistic about what projects are really important.
Again, make a list – another list! On it put everything that needs to be done, both work and personal, then number them as to their importance. The ones at the bottom probably are not so time sensitive and can most likely wait for later.
Most importantly, say “no”. Entrepreneurs are the worst at that as they are are so afraid to turn down work!
Look after your health by exercising, walking or biking – clearing your head helps you to keep balanced and strees free.
Have a wonderful holiday everyone. Put work aside and be your best self.
